Trevor Nunn’s five-star production of Fiddler on the Roof transfers from the Menier Chocolate Factory to the Playhouse Theatre for a limited season. The show sees Tevye, a father of five spirited daughters, try to maintain his Jewish faith as prejudice rocks his community, and new influences come into the family’s life through the love of his three eldest daughters. This classic musical features the well-known songs ‘Tradition’, ‘Sunrise, Sunset’, ‘Matchmaker’ and ‘If I Were a Rich Man’, amongst an all-round sumptuous score.
Fiddler on the Roof – Playhouse Theatre A must see! Have you seen the 1971 film version of the American musical comedy-drama ‘Fiddler on the Roof’? If not, or haven’t seen it in a while, you should really treat yourself. It is so good! Pre-War Revolution Russia, singing, dancing, Jews – you know, the good stuff. Nearly as good as the film – the Playhouse Theatre presentation. “– the first West End revival for Fiddler sine the 2007 Savoy Theatre production.” Andy Nyman’s Tevye is genuine and breaths the theme in every word and song – start to end. His performance of ‘If I A Rich Man’ is perfect and beyond expectation. And his collaboration with the lovely Judy Kuhu (Glode) in ‘Do you love me?’, burns a special heart to this thing – this theme – break from breadth and bleak reality. Their performances are a gift to the audience and to art. While the cast in general were excellent – especially the guys doing the amazing “Bottle dance” (not actually a Jewish tradition, but good enough to forgive) – Nyman and Kuhu are who will forever build a nest in your memory. Director Trevor Nunn director should get a Knighthood from the Queen. One could say more, and too much more, but just go see it, please! You’ll be talking about it all year after and remembering it fondly for life. 5 stars https://www.londontheatredirect.com/news/full-casting-announced-for-playhouse-theatre-production-of-fiddler-on-the-roof

Congratulations. Best production of Fiddler I have seen since watching Topol on stage many years ago in Bristol. I know the show very well and was impressed by it's direction and the performance of the whole cast.

Fiddler on the Roof was an utterly outstanding show, completely ruined by the lack of air conditioning. It was so stiflingly hot, that my friend & I almost walked out. So disappointed.

I attended last night with my family. the production was absolutley incredible. the vocals sublime. the set excellent (authentic i am sure for th time and the location). It was a fabulous fabulous night. theatre staff were so lovely especially Tony and Danielle. Please dont lose this marvellous opportunity to participate in a piece of history. Terrible terrible history but bittersweet. this film made a devastating impact on me when it first came out it destroyed my naivete about the world. it was brutalising. however it was educatioal and gave me an insight and perceptive into the history of these peoples. All of my group felt the same about the production and the film. Congratuations to all cast and production team.

Brilliant production from start to finish. I felt I was in the village myself. Very intimate environment which added to the enjoyment. Amazing. Can’t stop humming the songs.

One of the best musicals we’ve been too. The cast, the set, the production fully engages you throughout and is delivered to perfection. A must see at a great little theatre. Special thanks to Jenna and her team for a superb service too.

This is the third and best production I have ever seen of this (also saw Topol at London Palladium in 1994 and 2007 Savoy theatre production.) It has the best scenery and lighting of any show I've ever seen and creates a totally immersive experience (apart from the boxes being built into the set, which is a bit distracting. Found myself staring at the people sitting in the boxes!) Amazing dancers in the wedding scene (yet dancers not listed in the programme!). Very powerful and moving. I cried twice - never cried at the theatre before. I had good seats - stalls L32 & L33, which were fairly cheap (£52) and had good view. Reading other reviews I am glad I chose these seats and not those in the circles!
