1984
Headlong's critically acclaimed production of George Orwell's 1984 returns to the West End following a successful tour. This production which has now been seen by a quarter of a million people will play a limited season before embarking on a world tour.
Orwell's classic is set in a mythical dystopian state, Airstrip One (former United Kingdom), part of Oceania. The story focuses on the character of Winston Smith, a member of the Outer Party and a budding Thought Criminal. In a state where thinking in opposition to the Party is illegal, let alone voicing it, citizens have nowhere to hide. With the Thought Police waiting to strike at any minute, Winston must avoid being brought before Big Brother at all costs. 1984 explores a surveillance state to horrifying effect. One thing is for sure, you will never want to know what is behind the door to room 101...
